Boutique Fashion Store

This design was created for a boutique fashion flagship store located in Shanghai’s trendy French Concession area. The 4,300 sq. ft. villa consisted of three buildings and two courtyards built in a hybrid English-French Art Deco style.

The client - a well-known fashion designer in the Shanghai scene - wanted to focus on three main features: a personalized boutique experience for customers, creating a space of luxury, and adding brand awareness. The space included an entrance hall, shop floor, lounge area and generous changing rooms upstairs. The theme throughout is paired-back 1920s design, incorporating some bold and glamorous accents. Entering from the private courtyard the customer is greeted by a dazzling, checkered ceiling of mirrored and barrisol panels, drawing the eye inwards and creating a strong first impression. Intricate geometric designs on the parquet floors are paired with white walls and simple marble mannequin stands, adding elegance and style while not distracting from the boutique’s offerings of designer clothes and accessories. Gold leaf details are included in the crown moulding and decorative elements throughout to create a touch of luxury. A large barrisol ceiling with an art deco motif is suspended over a custom curved sofa in the lounge area, denoting a special area for clients to relax and drink tea. The second floor houses three generous changing rooms. Dark wood floors and traditional furniture pieces contrast with the pure white walls and soft, pale furnishings. Decorative brass lights and furniture accents add warmth and glamor to the spaces.
